Recreating Retro Looks With False Eyelashes
November 5, 2012Recreating Today’s Hot Retro Look With False Eyelashes
Pin-up looks are really making a comeback these days thanks to gorgeous, retro-glam models like Dita Von Teese. However, many of us feel that we can only look on in wonder and wish we had those kinds of skills with cosmetics.
In reality though, today’s retro looks are easier to recreate than we ever would have thought possible. All you need is the right supplies at hand and a little know-how. Let’s take a closer look at how anyone can use false eyelashes and a few basic eye make-up staples to create a glam look that would give even Ms. Von Teese a run for her money!
Prime Your Eye Area
The first step to creating any special eye look is to create a good foundation to work with. You can use either your choice of an eye make-up primer or a little foundation. Apply a thin layer over your entire lid area and blend well. Allow to set. This will help your make-up stay put and last longer to boot.
Use Shadow to Enhance the Size of Your Eye
The most glamorous retro looks are so lovely because of the way they accentuate the natural shape of a woman’s eye and bring out the best in any pair of peepers. In fact, this is exactly why the retro “cat eye” look is so flattering on just about any woman regardless of her coloring, face shape, or natural eye shape.
Apply a light-colored, neutral shadow in beige or eggshell underneath your brow to highlight your bone structure. Also apply the same shadow to the inner corners of your eyelids in order to help make your eyes appear bright and open. Blend well.
Liquid Liner
Now it’s time to add the liner. Retro looks get their signature flare from liquid liner, so make sure you have yours handy. Apply liner across the upper lid in a smooth line. The line should be thinnest at the edges of the eye and thicker toward the middle.
Add False Eyelashes
No retro-glam look would be complete without a strip of glamorous false eyelashes! False eyelashes help to open the eye even further and add a real feeling of sensuality and femininity to your look.
Make sure your fake lashes are pre-trimmed to an appropriate length. They should roughly match the look and length of your existing lashes for the best, most natural results. Carefully remove them from their container with tweezers and use a toothpick or small applicator to apply a thin line of lash adhesive to the rail of the lashes.
Allow about ten seconds or so for the glue to become tacky and then carefully attach the lashes to your eyelid as closely to your lash line as possible. Once lashes are completely dry, finish your look with mascara over both your fake eyelashes and real lashes together. This helps all of the lashes blend together seamlessly for a look that is otherworldly and glamorous, but completely believable as well.
